Celebrate Brooklyn! kicked off
its 34th season with performances from music legends from around the
world. The season opened with reggae legend Jimmy Cliff singing his classics
such as “The Harder They Come.” The festival which is held at the bandshell in Prospect
Park, Brooklyn, is a performance venue showcasing musicians from around the
world. Afrocubism, a collaboration between Cuban and Malian musicians played to a packed crowd on Saturday. Celebrate Brooklyn! features music, dance, word and film and runs until August 11th where Lyle Lovett will be performing. Upcoming performers include a diverse group of musicians and dance companies including Balkan Beat Box, Ballet Hispanico, Sweet Honey In The Rock to Arturo Sandoval. By Simone McKenzie
